How to Use Line Item Manager

This is the second post in a series of blogs exploring Chartbeat for Ad Sales.

In the past couple months, we’ve been working on some tools to help you make the most of our Engaged Ad Refresh technology. Today we’re going to introduce you to Line Item Manager, our delivery optimization tool.

Line Item Manager: What It Does and How

With this tool, you can track line items and adjust their targeting to ensure delivery goals are met — whether it’s a viewability goal or an Active Exposure Time goal. So rather than overdeliver on impressions and lose valuable inventory just to reach a viewability goal, you can hit that goal through strategic line item targeting.

Line Item Manager enables you to optimize campaign delivery. Because you have the option to target line items to refreshed ad slots, which are more likely to be viewable, you are more likely to improve the viewability performance of that line item. Isn’t it nice to reach campaign goals without make-goods?

To take full advantage of Line Item Manager, there are a couple quick steps you should follow. First, assign your line items a goal either in terms of viewable rate or Active Exposure Time. With set goals, Line Item Manager can track the success of each individual line item against its goal. The tool collects and analyzes performance data to measure whether line items are on pace to meet those goals.

Later on, check out your off-track line items to see which ones need some love. Line Item Manager offers suggestions to put those items back on track. After clicking into each off-track line item, you can adjust its targeting— selecting between a few options to put that line item on track. For example, if one of your line items is not meeting its viewable rate goals, you might decide between serving line items to recently-refreshed, highly-viewable ad slots or refining unit targeting to eliminate underperforming ad positions. Applying the selected action will automatically adjust targeting in DFP. For context, Line Item Manager display will show you projected performance with and without optimization.

Come back to check how those line items are fairing. Line Item Manager tracks all your line items, on-track and off, so checking Line Item Manager semi-regularly helps give you an accurate overview of how your campaigns are delivering.
